Bae-bae (in my new orleans voice) what a workout

As promised I would not be behind in my blogging.

Yesterday Morning, I woke up and hit the track at Morehouse with my new workout partner and what a workout it was. To give you a little background on who I was working out with, he is a 6'9 pro basketball player over seas, keep this in mind as I describe the workout I fought to keep up with.

The Warm-Up: The warm-up that I have been used to doing is 50 jumping jacks, back peddling around the track (running backwards) once, followed by a regular lap around the track, reasonable enough. According to him, a warm-up is a mile (now to a lot of people running a mile is a workout!) I did not let him see that I was sweating about this being the warm-up so I asked are we going to run the straights and jog the curves?[in reference to the track] He informed me that we would not be on the track at all, we would be running around the fence of the football field, twice around is a mile. I have to admit the thought of only going around twice was MUCH better than the thought of running around the track 4 times. The mile was also like a mini obstacle course because there were mini hills we had to run and steps to climb as well. On the first lap I did great, kept up the whole time the start of the second lap, I had to take a mini break to drink some water, but other than that I did pretty good keeping up if I may say so myself.

Steps: After being tired from the warm-up it was time to move to the stadium steps (as crazy as it sounds I love stadium steps, it just makes my legs look so good!) First time up, was just a regular sprint up the steps. Second time up, we went up side stepping the steps, this makes the process going up so much longer and the leading leg is on fire when you get to the top.  Third time up, high knees. Fourth time up the stairs we bounce up the steps (its kind of hard to explain this so meet me at the track on tuesday we can do them together) Fifth time up the stairs, skipped steps while running. Sixth time up the stairs (final time) one last race to the top (I won this one btw). When I got to the top this time I sat down.

I watched: I had to sit down when I reached the top on the last set of stairs, it had been a while since I had a good work out on the steps, so I wanted to catch my breath. While I sat he then went to the football field, and did sprints. He ran end-zone to end-zone a few times. Once I finally caught my breath I walked down and I had to do at least  one sprint. After doing the sprint I was ready to pass out, that's when he told me, lets do a cool down lap.

The Cool down:  The cool down was a lap around the track walking. During this time he told me the rest of the workout that we didn't do, this included: repeating the stadium steps routine four more times, running up and down the hills 10 times, suicides on the football field, more sprints, and finally the weight room. He must have seen my facial expression ( I really need to work on my facial expression, it tells on my every time) and he said don't worry after you do it a few times it will be easier to do. I told him that I don't know if I can do all of that, but eventually I want to be able too.

His Goal for me: He told me, don't worry about trying to keep up with me, and doing everything just like me, its the fact that you are out here, doing something. Just try to do at least one of everything before you give up, you will be surprised how far you will go.

An unplanned lesson

Hello everyone! I do apologize for being behind on updating my blog. But here is my latest entry:

This past weekend I had one of the best weekends. Mentally I had forgotten about my program and was just having too much fun. I went to Minnesota with my cousin (@msparker513) for the Vikings Cowgirls game. If you missed it, the Vikings won, the Cowgirls went home with their pom-poms between their legs. The first night we arrived in Minnesota I was starving, I literally had not eaten anything the entire day. My cousin and I went down to the hotel lobby restaurant to get something to eat. I ordered a Cheese Burger and french fries. (Are ya'll disapointed in me? I hope not, I'm still a work in progress) Well it wasn't long after I had ordered my burger that I was soon reminded about my journey.

We were later joined by Ray Edwards (vikings 91) and as I am chowing down on my burger (which wasn't that great) he ordered a salad. Gotta love looking like a fatty while the football player is enjoying his salad. He decided to then give me nutrition lesson. I mentioned that my burger was dry, he responded by telling me that by ordering my burger well done, I had cooked all of the nutrients out of the burger so what I was eating was a waste and just plain unhealthy... ok.. got it, for now on I will order my food medium well, just a HINT of pink. No mommy dearest rare for me.

Later that night we went out, and of course we had had a couple of drinks (again 1989 im 21) It was the weekend I had just taken the LSAT was doing some celebrating. Well that enjoyment was short lived, when the next day with Ray I received my second unexpected nutrition lesson. While talking about the night before he spoke about how many calories and sugars are in alcohol. Naturally I asked what do you do when you go to the club....he said he drinks WATER...now before I started to think he's crazy I had to take a moment to reflect on my first year of college when I did not drink. I used to be the one that would go to a club for open bar, for the bottles of water, and coincidently freshman year was the smallest I have ever been. (I looked good yall) So I figure I have to find a happy medium, because I do enjoy a little drink and a two step when I go out. I remember one day when the @THESUPERTRAINER  told me about my drinking and weight before that for every alcoholic beverage I have, to follow it with a glass of water, I think I can commit to that.
this is me freshman year at the beach spring break.. not a care in the world and not sucking in a thing.. these were the good old days that I will be back too!

Workout plans:
  • I have finally found me a new workout partner and I'm excited tomorrow I hit the track at Morehouse at 10am. Im excited and ready to really go hard!
  • Every night I have been trying to make sure that I do crunches. I have been doing 50 a night but next week I will increase the amount that I do every night.
Food:

  • I have been making sure that I have incorporated much more vegetables in my life
  • Drinking Plenty of water
  • And I am trying to decrease my carbs to one a day.
P.S: I promise not to go so long without a entry, will be another one tomorrow

Today is the First Day!

Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

This weekend my mom ran in the Chicago Marathon, she ran 14 miles (one mile more than she planned to do). YOU GO GIRL! Knowing that she was out there running, is just a reminder to me as to why my mission is so important to me. At 21 years old I can  not say that I can honestly run 14 miles in one setting, and that saddens me. Even though it saddens me, it INSPIRES me more, next year mom, I'm Running WITH you. (I have put it in writing so I can't back out)
Here she is getting ready to start the race. Ya'll notice the materials she has on her: Ipod, workout gear, and some cute shoes to match. Now she is a bit fancier than me, hair done, nails painted, and lipstick on, but that's my mommy.
14 miles later.. hair still looking good, lipstick still in place... to sum her up in one word..#beast. Notice the water bottle holder thing she got on her, Thats a material I need to add.

She didn't just stop with the pictures of her in the marathon to inspire me, she even got my nephew involved.
Gotta make sure I hit my abs

Another addition to the short term list.. Do as many pushups as J.J.

So, what is my plan? I know I was supposed to have this completely figured out by Sunday, but to be honest, I don't have it all the way figured out but I have a rough draft that I'm pretty sure that I can do.

Today is the first day of my cleanse, and reading comments and talking to people that read the blog I need to discuss the cleanse that I am doing just a bit more. Its a cleanse that is made up of all herbs not additional chemicals. However, since one of my parents has expressed concern, I will adjust the cleanse plan. I will do the cleanse for four days. The first three I will use the pills, and the last day I will try all grapes. I'll let you know how the two compare.

Workouts, I am going to try to work out 4-5 times a week:

Monday: Personal Workout on the track
Tuesday: 7am Boot camp @Spelman, Spelman sisters I'd love to see you there
Wednesday:  Personal Workout on the track
Thursday: 7am Boot camp @Spelman
Friday: Rest
Saturday: Ab bootcamp 1pm @LAFitness ATL Station
Sunday: Rest

Introducing Tina

Hello Everyone! First off I just want to say WOW and THANK YOU. I was hoping for a good response from this blog, but the feed back and support has been amazing! You all are really encouraging me to do this, and to do this right.

The only way that I am going to be able to do this is if I do this right. Even if that means embarrassing myself and posting the dreadful "before" pictures.   Which brings me to todays entry, introducing Tina.
                                                          Tiny is My Tummy
See that face... it's a sad face.. i wanna have a HAPPY face, not a sad face!
I know guys, I know it get worse with the side angle... I'm sure all my potential play is about to go out the window! LOL.

The back view is the worse, but as my friend Brittany (@BrittMcxoxo) pointed out to me, how did I manage to gain weight yet LOSE my booty. Definitely adding squats to the workout plan!
Even though I am EXTREMELY embarrassed of these pics.. its cool.. cause I'm a fighter and when I pose with my after pics I'm going to hum a song "back then they didn't want me now I'm hot they all up on me!"

Shout out to my big sis Kia (@tropikia) and the homie Brian (@briantocoolfortwitter) for giving me those encouraging words to actually go through with the plan to post these pictures! And to the photographer Asia (@thatxdivaxasia)

Let's Start this program off cleansed and refreshed

Everyone keeps telling me that the key to being healthy and fit is not necessarily how much I work out, but what I am eating. I have to be honest, this saddens me greatly, I like working out! But I HATE not being able to roll through Popeyes get me a 1.99 snack pack with an extra biscuit. But if I want to see results, I'm going to have to make sacrifices, plus I hear some of this healthy food stuff is tasty.

I work out with a trainer named Jody (@thesupertrainer) well I did often till another client stole him away and took him to L.A, but I can't be mad he's a beast so I understand he's in high demand. Well one of his clients Masika (@Masikakalysha) told me that she lost her 20 pounds by cutting out carbs. My first reaction to hearing this was HELL NO! That means no chocolate covered pretzels, no bread dipped in oil and cheese at Maggiano's, that's cruel! After seeing my facial reaction and hearing my concerns (yes these are concerns and they are valid) she then explained I don't have to go cold turkey. Try it gradually, with maybe one carb a day, then 3 carbs a week etc. That seemed more feasible and I'm sure I can do that (disclaimer: when she first told me about this I said I could do it, then didn't do it, but I'm serious about it now and I am going to give it a try and most importantly STICK TO IT) Her next suggestion was to jump start this program was to start with a good cleanse. She said she did a straight natural cranberry juice cleanse. YUCK cranberry juice is already gross without vodka (sorry mom, but hey I am 21 now) and without and extra sugar! No go for me!

So I started looking into different cleanses, there are a bunch of different juice cleanses out there. Lemonade diets, grapefruit juices, etc. However,  I think the most important part about this journey is going to be for me to be truthful and honest to myself and not commit to something that I know I can't do, and that includes doing a juice cleanse. So I began doing a bunch of research and going to GMC's to get some information on alternative cleanses and I came upon on that I think will work. (mini-story: When I was in GMC the guy helping me was kinda cute, I don't think it was the best look me searching for a cleanse lol.) I found cleansing pills take them a couple times a day, and get a good cleanse. Now that I can do. The kind I got was the Super Colon Cleanse.

The Super Colon Cleanse leads me to Step One of my Procedure, and that is the first week Monday-Friday I will do a cleanse. If I want to start of a new healthy lifestyle I have to get rid of all the bad stuff in me already. NO I will not just be eating pills for a week, but I will be eating straight fruits and vegetables and drinking LOTS of water. (I cant do just no food! I'm a big girl ya'll and I need to eat!)

** New features on the BLOG** Check out my food journal and workout schedule!
Leave me comments to help my process along or comment if you are going to try this program out with me!

The first entry

Hey everyone I'm new to this whole blogging thing, but I figured that I would give this a try.
So here we go. This blogs purpose is for me to get healthy and in shape. I decided to do a blog so that I am forced to keep up with my routines and commitments, and if anyone wants to join me on my journey, please come along.

I have multiple reasons why I want to get healthy and fit besides not wanting to die, but the main reason is my mom. One day she sent me a picture of her riding her bike in her lil tank top and biker shorts, when I looked at the picture my first reaction was damn my mom looks good! I told myself I have to make sure I look good like my mom when I am her age.
With that one picture here we are ladies and gentlemen. Im not trying to get it right and tight for spring break, or a party etc.

Using the blog is an experiment, to see if I can truly stay on task. My experiment will officially begin on Monday October 11th, 2010 (when my LSAT is over)

The Plan:

The Question: Will I Margarite be able to to create a workout program and a healthy eating program the
will in theory change my life forever?

Hypothesis: I believe that with the help of this blog and support of others I can keep myself motivated to follow the program that I set, so that I will be healthy and fit.

Experimental Design: The design of this project will be to make a workout plan, and a meal plan.. and stick too it.. it sounds simple enough… lets just hope that it actually follows through.

Materials:

  1. Pair of cute workout shoes- (that are comfortable and supportive) cute ones cause cute shoes always make me want to work out more. Just like a cute pair of pumps make you want to dance and show them off, same philosophy here.
  2. Waistband- (the mid section is killing me, I can truly only hide it with my chest for so long. at some point people are gonna notice trick
  3. Work out clothes
  4. A Du-rag and a baseball cap-, yes, I will workout even if my hair is done no shame in wrapping it up throwing on a hat and getting in a good workout.
  5. Fruit- I want my insides to be just as good as my outsides!
  6. Fresh Vegetables- Trader Joes is about to be my new best friend
  7. Fish- I am going to try to make sure that I eat more fish, rather than beef.... this shouldn't be to hard, well until the name Ruth Chris comes up.
  8. Charged Ipod- there is nothing worse than going for a run for your ipod to tell you its dead. The whole mood just changes.
  9. Workout playlist- again another instant mood changer when you are working out,  Roscoe Dash got you dancing and running with a great pace then Beyonce Halo comes on and just ruins the whole pace.
  10. I think that's it for now.. will possibly add more if I find I need it.
Procedure: MAKE A PLAN AND STICK TO IT!

Well that's it for the first entry, I have between today and Sunday night to finalize my workout plan!
Send me suggestions guys!!
